ANA LUCHIAN
b. 1986, Tulcea, Romania — lives and works between Brussels and Bucharest — member of the HDD group of artists
Luchian’s work shifts between reality and fantasy, the innocent and the provocative — in a raw, bawdy interplay between refined technique and unfiltered instinct.
Raised in a world of craftsmanship and ritual — both sacred and somber — Luchian’s visual language carries an instinctive understanding of life’s extremes. Her paintings move between realism, abstraction, and raw expressionism, confronting life and desire, death and transformation with visceral directness. Drawing is at the core of her practice. Her lines hold the residue of lived intimacy — bodies that have crossed hers, transformed into tension, gesture, and form.
Self-taught, her practice resists the institutional. Mentorship with painter Jean Sobieski sharpened her vision without polishing it flat. The rawness stayed. The voice remained singular.
Since 2024 Luchian lives and works between Brussels and Bucharest and she is a member of the HDD group of artists.
